Review: Mecca Latte Cafe

Re-posted from old blog.

Mecca Latte cafe is set in the midst of a good ol’ local shopping strip. The local mothers’ club adds an at-home atmosphere to the place, highlighting the laid-back environment that this place is. Quiet, simple and unobtrusive, this is one place that you might easily overlook – a welcome change from the hustle-n-bustle of city cafes. Yet, unlike most suburban cafes, this one does not disappoint with the quality of both coffee and food.

For the morning, I began with a long macchiato, followed by a flat white and a toasted Tandoori chicken focaccia. The long macchiato was a strong full-bodied brew with a sharp flavour (that may not appeal to all) with a slightly bitter after-taste, hints of dark chocolate crowned with a thick crema and dash of froth.

Seeking to have a good coffee, the barista made a flat white upon given license to make his chosen coffee. Normally not a drinker of flat whites, primarily because most baristas fail to make them well, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality served. Andrew, the barista, succeeded in making a creamy delight, while maintaining the full-bodied flavour of the coffee I’d experienced prior. The creamy milk takes off some of the sharpness of the espresso, while Andrew’s delicate skill retained a beautiful, and decorated, smooth crema. Without a doubt, one of the best white coffees I’ve had in a long time. (I may just have been converted…just maybe.)

All in all, a reasonable price, good and friendly service and good food and coffee makes for a great experience. Well worth a visit.
