Amazing people…

Over the last month or so, I have had the opportunity (again) to meet some amazing people. These people, while not necessarily famous, are extremely gifted in their respective areas. I am extremely blessed to know these people and journey with them through life and where they are heading. Today, I’m sitting in on a band practice and here’s just a small collage that I put together:

Just an awesome time of making music…just awesome.

I don’t believe in accidents. Random, sure. Unplanned, sure. Unintended, sure. Coincidence, nope. I had one of the most random, unplanned, unintended meetings on Saturday. What I thought would last, say, two hours ended up lasting for the good space of about 6 hours…

Say, "Please"

Just this morning I was writing a request to a company for some assistance with one of their services. I found myself wondering whether I should write the word “please” in writing my request. It really got me thinking. We tell our kids to say please, we expect others to say it and yet, when we actually come to say it, we hesitate. I realised that we’ve begun to tie an association of weakness and inability to this word - “please”.

No longer does this word carry positive overtones, rather, now, quite negative connotations. You say, “please”, when you need help and admit that you cannot accomplish the task at hand on your own. It may be seen as weak and feeble. “Please, sir, can you help me?” There is, almost, a desperation implied that one is hanging from the edge of cliff.

(Oh, the joys of ranting…) I could say more but it would just be nothing more than a rant. At the end of the day, “please” is still highly appreciated. I, still, do think though that there is a decline in manners and respectfulness in society and I would hope that each one of us would not forget that we do relate and communicate with other people in this world and that it does not revolve around us.

classroomI’m surprised that tomorrow will be the first day that I’m actually looking forward to the study that comes with the start of a new semester. Weird! Never in my life have I anticipated or wished that I was back in a classroom. It’s not a feeling I suspect will last long, but it very existence is a surprise and if any of you well enough you’ll be asking me to go see the shrink very quickly.

What makes it even more weird is my first class will have a revision test to go with it…? Something wrong me…I think so. What can I say though? For once, I actually want to go back to school.

I made the comment on a friend’s blog the other day that it had been 2 years since its inception. It got me thinking about how long I’ve “lived” life on the Internet. It’s been just over 10 years now since I started my first website and for as long as I can remember. Since first hooking up to the Internet, I’ve cycled through over 20 different email addresses (I currently still have 4 active), made over 10 websites (one I dare admit was a celebrity fan site [listed in the best top 10] which had me buying Vanity Fair at one point) and used most mainstream chat programs (AIM, Yahoo, MSN, Google, Skype, ICQ).

Neither is my life as a techno-geek limited to the computer, phones…and if any of you know me, you know I’ve cycled through a great number of them…on average one a year, though I will say that I have slowed down that process and with the upcoming iPhone will slow that down significantly. I could go on, but really, I’ll save it for another time. From the techno-geek…

SiestaI’ve been meaning to write about this for a while. Most people look forward to their weekends. Me? I look forward to my Wednesdays! Odd, well, maybe but not all that illogical.

You see, my working week (in that I include studies) is from Friday to Tuesday. Before you all jump in and ask if I’m available next Wednesday for coffee…I’m not, let me explain.

There is more to my “weekend” than just simply having a day-off. I rest. To most people, this is pretty normal and you don’t think too much about it, right? Probably not.

Went to my physiotherapist today. Ouch! I know I have back problems, but this whole study deal is not helping me one bit. I was hurting in parts that were completely unrelated…it’s getting quite alarming.

Sometimes I wonder, is my physiotherapist actually helping me or making my situation worse? Mind you, I won’t be seeing him for 6 weeks and that’s pretty good considering I was seeing him anywhere between 2~4 weeks on a regular basis.

Smiles…

smileSmiles…intriguing aren’t they? (The kid is cute as well…) They convey so many different messages, so many different emotions, and tell so many different stories. A smile may say, “I love you.” A smile may show how much joy there is between friends. A smile may tell the story of how one overcomes certain difficulties in life.

A smile at times can be confusing. A smile may say one thing, but is translated as something completely different to what it was intended. A smile that says, “Thanks for being a great friend,” may, on the extreme side, be understood as, “I have feelings for you.” (This is merely an example, so there’s nothing that I need to inform you of.) A smile may show happiness, when really the person is being torn apart from the inside. They aren’t always all that simple.

Then there are times when there are no apparent reasons behind a smile. (If you know me, then you’ll find me having a lot of these moments.) In my experience, these are the most beautiful and powerful smiles of all, like seeing the sunrise at dawn. A smile that arise from the deepest places of our hearts. A smile that conveys that, for all its faults, all its troubles, all its worries, and all other things, life is good.

When was the last time you could just sit and, in the midst of all of life’s worries, smile?

Have you ever looked in the mirror and seen a pathetic person looking back at you? Have you ever looked at your hand after washing them and seen hands covered with the stench of wrongs they had committed? Have you ever looked at your life and think about how undeserving you are of where you are? I have.

“Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all?” The famous line from Snow White fairy tale. What exactly do you see when you look in the mirror? Do you see the fairest of them all? On any typical day, I would. I would see the fairest of them all. The one who has life all together, not a worry in the world. I would see hands that have been kept clean. A life that I deserve to be living. Well, that’s all on the surface, naturally.
